I-710 Highway Electrification Study

Elcon assisted Mark Thomas & Company with determining the feasibility of an electrified highway for class 8 freight trucks traveling on the future/proposed I-710 Zero Emission (ZE) Freight Corridor in Southern California. Scope includes preliminary design for installing an Overhead Contact System to power 27 fully loaded trucks per lane per mile for a 2 lane, 18-mile route. Elcon prepared preliminary design criteria, performed calculations for the load flow study and outlined the traction power system configuration and equipment necessary requirements for the project. The project required close coordination with multiple agencies including LA Metro, Port of Los Angeles, Port of Long Beach, and Southern California Edison.
