Zero Emissions eHighway Demonstration Project

Siemens conducted feasibility for a two-mile stretch of highway for electric and hybrid Class 8 heavy duty trucks in the vicinity of the largest US ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. As part of the demonstration of the eHighway systems, two lanes of Alameda Street in the city of Carson, California, are being electrified via a catenary system.

Elcon was responsible for substation design, including installation, systems ductbank, utility interface, grounding design, and preparing power systems studies including short circuit and relay coordination studies for AC & DC protections. Elcon’s responsibility included assistance with development of test plans and test procedures, field acceptance and systems integrated testing.
