Elcon Associates, Inc. is seeking an electrical designer or engineer to work out of our Beaverton, OR office. In this position you’ll be supporting our project teams in variety of market sectors which will likely include transit (light rail, electric trolleybus, monorail, high speed rail, heavy rail, and stations and facilities), transportation (infrastructure to support battery electric bus, electric vehicle charging, fuel cell electric vehicles), electric utilities, renewable energy, water & wastewater, marine ports, and aviation. Specific market sector interests will be taken into consideration, but you should anticipate to work on projects in a variety of different markets.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Plans, and Control Building Equipment & Cable Tray Layout.
  • Prepare AC and DC single line diagrams, metering and relaying schematics.
  • Prepare substation equipment layouts, conduit and cable layout.
  • Prepare power, lighting, and grounding plans.
  • Prepare conduit and ductbank schedule.
  • Prepare cable and circuit schedule.
  • Designing motor control centers, motor control diagrams.
  • Controls and instrumentation design.
  • Control panel layout and design.
  • Process and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Conduct load flow, short circuit analysis, protective device coordination and arc flash hazard analysis.
  • Perform voltage drop and grounding calculations.
  • Travel to work sites and meetings (up to 5% travel expected).
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • BSEE graduate from an ABET-accredited institution or pursuing/completion of an MSEE with a concentration in power systems.
  • Interest in working on projects in a variety of market segments.
  • Minimum Three (3) years of experience as an electrical designer in power systems.
  • Engineer in Training certificate (EIT) or pursuing certificate.
  • Must demonstrate strong ethical behavior while striving to produce quality work within project budgets and schedules.
  • Team-oriented mindset is a must.
  • Must understand the value of client satisfaction.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Able to multi-task on several design projects.
  • Able to meet challenging deadlines.
  • Self-starter with sound judgment and decisiveness.

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Previous experience at an engineering consulting firm.
  • Experience managing small projects.
  • Willingness to travel.

Elcon Associates, Inc. is seeking a senior electrical engineer to work out of our Beaverton, OR office.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise and prepare design and provide guidance in developing of the following substation outdoor drawings: General Arrangement, Electrical Equipment Plans, Section Views (Elevations), Detailed Bills of Material, Lightning Stroke Shielding Plans, Grounding Plans, Conduits, Electrical Connection and Grounding Details, Underground Conduit/Raceway Plans, and Control Building Equipment & Cable Tray Layout.
  • Supervise and provide design or assist in preparing and developing the engineering deliverables including one & three-line diagrams; relaying and metering; AC/DC schematics; control and relaying panel layouts and equipment wiring diagrams; auxiliary system design including batteries and chargers, AC & DC load centers, conduit, and cable sizing.
  • Lead technical discussion with customers or peers explaining the issue/problem as well as the decision process behind the solution.
  • Provide oversight/guidance to junior engineers.
  • Possess social and communication skills necessary to integrate into a team, as well as effectively communicate with peers and customers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum
  • 10+ years of related experience
  • PE licensure preferred

  • Provide technical, managerial, and supervisory direction for projects in various market segments.
  •  Perform technical activities including, power systems studies, low and medium voltage distribution design for rail transit and water & wastewater treatment facilities. Experience with high voltage substation design is a plus.
  • Provide supervision and direction for the preparation of construction documents including drawings, calculations, reports, specifications, and construction cost estimates.
  • Work with marketing and business managers and other technical discipline leads in developing technical proposals and have a proactive role in marketing.
  • This senior position provides the opportunity to manage, mentor and grow a strong team of dynamic engineering and design staff working on large and complex projects.

Required Qualifications:

  • Licensed Oregon or California PE with 10 – 15 years of experience in heavy industrial and/ or rail transit. California rail transit experience is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience with consulting engineering firms is a must.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication, and management skills.
  • Must demonstrate strong ethical behavior while striving to produce quality work within project budgets and schedules.
  • Must understand the value of client satisfaction.
